Contact Officials Letter
For millions of Americans who want to work and pursue their dreams, a government permission slip is standing in their way. Much of the time, getting one costs far more time and money than the average person can afford.
These permission slips are called occupational licenses, and without one, a person can face legal consequences just for working – even if they are highly qualified.
Occupational licensing laws may result in an estimated 2.85 million fewer jobs and an annual cost to consumers of about $203 billion. Among the only supporters of these laws are special interests and entrenched businesses that benefit from fewer competitors.
Many of these licensing laws are simply unnecessary in the modern economy. People have a wealth of information at their fingertips, whether it’s through Yelp or other online forums. Young people in particular would rather trust the reviews of their peers than the judgement of government bureaucrats.
I hereby ask that you do everything you can to stand against these burdensome laws, and remove barriers like this so that Americans can enjoy more opportunities to succeed.
